The Edmontosaurus, whose name means 'lizard of Edmonton,' is a large herbivorous dinosaur that lived at the end of the Cretaceous period, about 66 million years ago. This member of the hadrosaur family, also known as 'duck-billed dinosaurs,' could grow over 12 meters long and weigh up to 4 tons. Thanks to its wide beak and its hundreds of small, closely packed teeth, it could easily grind the plants it ate. Interesting feature: it is believed that the Edmontosaurus likely lived in herds, which helped protect it from large predators like Tyrannosaurus rex. Scientists also speculate that it could inflate a kind of crest or skin pouch on its snout to communicate.
The Edmontosaurus figure from Papo realistically showcases the characteristic features of this fascinating dinosaur: its flattened beak, textured skin, and massive posture. An essential model to add to any dinosaur collection to imagine life in the Cretaceous or to spark the curiosity of kids passionate about paleontology.
