Collection: Orthoceras Fossils for sale – Ancient Cephalopods

Orthoceras is an extinct genus of straight-shelled cephalopods that lived during the Ordovician to Triassic periods (approx. 450–200 million years ago). Related to modern squids and octopuses, these marine animals propelled themselves through ancient seas using jet propulsion, hunting trilobites, fish, and other invertebrates.

Fossils of Orthoceras are especially abundant in the black limestones of Morocco, where entire fossil beds have been preserved. Their elongated shells often display internal chambers a hallmark of cephalopod evolution.

Polished slabs, spheres, and free-standing specimens reveal striking contrasts between the white fossil shells and dark matrix.
