This predator lived during the Cretaceous period around 70 to 100 million years ago.
Carcharodontosaurus was a large predatory dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period. Its name translates to "shark-toothed," reflecting its characteristic sharp and serrated teeth, similar to those of modern-day sharks. Carcharodontosaurus belonged to the theropod group of dinosaurs, which includes famous predators like Tyrannosaurus rex.
Carcharodontosaurus was one of the largest known carnivorous dinosaurs, with estimates suggesting it reached lengths of up to 40 to 46 feet (12 to 14 meters) and weighed around 6 to 8 tons. It had a long, powerful tail, muscular hind limbs, and relatively short arms with three-fingered hands. Its head was large and filled with numerous, curved teeth, which were up to 8 inches (20 centimeters) long.
The teeth were blade-like, designed for slicing through flesh and tearing apart its prey. This dinosaur was an apex predator, likely preying on large herbivorous dinosaurs that shared its habitat.
