- Karoo Formation, Madagascar
- Lower Triassic, approx. 247 million years old
These remarkable fish fossils come from Triassic-aged deposits (approximately 247 million years old) in Madagascar, one of the few places on Earth where well-preserved fossils from this pivotal time period are found.
During the Triassic period shortly after the largest mass extinction in Earth’s history life in the oceans was beginning to recover and diversify.
The preservation is often detailed, capturing even the delicate bones and outlines of the fish, making them both scientifically valuable and visually striking.
These exceptionally preserved fish fossils are revealed by carefully splitting open hard concretions, often exposing remarkable details like scales and fin structures. Around half a dozen distinct species have been described from this locality. Due to the nature of the preservation, this particular specimen is difficult to identify with certainty.
Species: ? Teffichthys madagascariensis ?
Comes with 2 acrylic stands
