- Oued Zem, Morocco
- Eocene (~ 54 million year old)
This fossil tooth comes from Otodus obliquus, one of the most iconic prehistoric sharks that lived during the Paleocene to early Eocene (approx. 60–45 million years ago). A distant ancestor of the famous megalodon, Otodus could reach lengths of up to 9 meters.
Otodus teeth are characterized by their triangular shape, sharp cutting edges, and often small side cusps at the base. Fossils from Morocco are among the finest examples.
