Moldavite is a unique tektite (gemstone) formed from a meteorite impact. The extreme heat and pressure of a meteorite impact created moldavite, a rare and intriguing natural glass, The finest moldavite specimens are found in Southern Bohemia, particularly near the Moldau River (hence its name) .
Formed in the German Ries Crater region some 14.5 million years ago as a result of a meteorite strike. Moldavite was created when the resultant molten material was released into the environment and quickly cooled.
Usually pale, olive, or mossy green, with sporadic brownish-green tinges.
Its high velocity production and quick cooling can result in complex surface patterns, such as wrinkles, grooves, or bubbles.
