- Quay County, New Mexico, USA
- Triassic period ~ 210 million years old
This fossil tooth comes from Redondasaurus, a genus of Phytosaurs that lived during the Late Triassic (approx. 210 million years ago) in what is now the United States. Phytosaurs were crocodile-like Archosaurs that dominated rivers and swamps, hunting fish and aquatic prey.
The tooth has the characteristic conical shape, perfectly adapted for gripping slippery prey. Fossils of Redondasaurus are rare and provide an exciting glimpse into ecosystems just before the age of dinosaurs.
