Otodus obliquus is an extinct species of shark that lived during the Paleocene and Eocene epochs, approximately 60 to 45 million years ago. This shark is particularly famous for being an early representative of the mackerel shark family (Lamnidae), which includes modern sharks like the Great White and the Mako shark.
Otodus obliquus is of particular interest because it is believed to be an ancestor of the famous Megalodon a massive shark that lived later during the Miocene and Pliocene epochs.
