This nicely preserved Metasequoia leaf fossil comes from the Eocene deposits of British Columbia, Canada. Metasequoia, also known as the Dawn Redwood is a "living" fossil, with close relatives still growing today.

The leaf shows visible needle like structure characteristic of this ancient tree. During the Eocene, vast Metasequoia forests covered the region, creating lush, temperate environments rich in life.
